Changing Philadelphia streets one image at a time

Mural #11

Common Threads is a mural that depicts real contemporary young people imitating postures of historical figurines. Many of the different images mirror each other or oppose each other. In the center of the mural is a young African American woman Tameka Jones. When this was painted Tameka Jones was a student at the Philadelphia High School for creative arts. She stands alone fearless, not intimidated by the other characters or anything at all. Her posture gives off a feeling of authority making me feel that this also has ties to empower young African American women.
